The Jeely Training Garden was host to the Action Earth Volunteers Matters launch event. Our project was chosen as it was an excellent example of collaborative working across four different organisations – Stuart Whittaker, Woodlands Officer (Cassiltoun Housing), Help Yourself Grow (Fair Deal), the Castlemilk Carpenters Workshop and Action Earth Volunteering Matters who were funding the project. The gardening trainees had previously made bat boxes for Stuart Whittaker at the Castlemilk Carpenters Workshop. The event was the launch of the Action Earth Volunteers Matters programme. Stuart took representatives from Action Earth, volunteers from Cassiltoun Housing and the HYG gardening trainees into Castlemilk Woods where he gave informative talks about bats and their habitat in the woods. He then put up the bat boxes which he will then check with our 2018-2019 HYG trainees in the autumn. Everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their involvement in this project.
